About Hemanshu

"All I can say is that my life is pretty plain, I like watching the puddles gather rain" - Blind Melon

For those who interact with me on a daily basis, this might not bear scrutiny. But those of you who found me through the internet or chanced upon my webpage from a link or randomly dropped in, read on.

Who am I?

Me? I’m an innocent (yeah right!) little thing, only 5′6″ tall, dark and bespectacled. Yup thats me all right. I was born in Dubai, the city of gold. And no, out there we don’t have oil wells in our back yards (when will people learn). And no, I did not grow up playing with the Sheikh’s children, and nor did I have a swimming pool filled with oil. Camels are also not the only means of transportation.

Now that we have all that cleared up, lets proceed shall we?

Academics

Indian High School, Dubai

(circa 1984 - 1999) Spent 14 formative years here (though God only knows how formative they were). It was great fun, as school always is. The only regret I have from those days is not playing much and only reading books.

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

(circa 1999 - 2003) That apart, my next step in life was to enter the world of coveted Indian Institute of Technologies. I managed to gain a seat in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. These I can say were the best 4 years of my life. I graduated as an Electrical Engineer, and among a circle of great friends.

Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta

(circa 2003 - 2005) Next came my current stint at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta. Here I am pursuing my Master’s in Human Computer Interaction. I work on campus doing accessible web development for the Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access to pay my way through graduate school.

Research and Work Experience

One might wonder why I club these 2 areas of my life together. Its simple. I have researched for class, for projects and for work. On the other hand, I have worked for class, for projects and for research itself.

I have experience in conceptualization, prototyping, user interface design, education technology and accessible web design through my work and research. This is best discussed in detail in my portfolio.

Passions

Here is a small list of what I like to do in my free time. Its not complete, and its not like I do all of this all the time.

  • photography
  • bathroom singing
  • reading
  • walking in the rain
  • ice skating
  • travelling
