Rain

I saw a movie called Baran. It has been over month since I saw it, but whenever I think of it, it brings tears to my eyes. Now I'm not one to cry often or even get so emotional out of hand, but this movie strikes a chord in me like no other.

The socio-economic aspects in the movie are very well researched and portrayed. The movie is set in 2001 Iran, where there are a lot of Afghani refugees. These refugees work illegally at construction sites to earn bread and butter for their families.

The story charts the coming of age of Lateef, an Iranian worker at a construction site, and that of Baran, an Afghani girl who is forced to work (disguised as a boy) when her father breaks her leg.

The picturization, editing, colours, and emotions portrayed in the film make for an electrifying watch. I have never been so moved at the end of a movie, and have never thought so much about it before.

I would recommend this as a must watch for all and sundry, as long as you enjoy a great movie! Do keep some hot tea to go with the movie, as it is set in colder climes and even that comes across very well :)

Oh and before I forget, Baran means rain.
