Chak De India

After a really really really long time, today I saw a movie that starred Shah Rukh Khan and which was actually fantastic (the earlier one being Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge). Chak De India is a beautiful movie, well directed and well enacted, that has the potential to do magic for women's sports in India, in a way that PT Usha did for it in the 80s.

Shah Rukh must have had to really restrain himself during the shooting, and does a splendid job that brings out the best in him. The girls have shown great chemistry, with a special mention going out to Chitrashi Rawat (Komal Chautala), Shilpa Shukla (Bindia Naik) and Tanya Abrol (Balbir Kaul).

I especially loved the role played by Chitrashi Rawat, who plays the tomboy Komal from Haryana. Her grasp of the nuances and idioms of the state make for fun listening.

All in all, a great movie. I do have an old friend to thank in getting me back to blogging :)
