Chat with a rickshaw driver

So this weekend while I was in mumbai visiting my aunt, I ran into a very chirpy rickshaw driver. He was, no doubt, very vocal about his view on the goverment (bhenchod neta) and the police (maderchod lootere). I agreed with him on both counts.

But the crux of the conversation was about how selfish we have become, and what a huge impact it has on our every day life and our interpersonal relationships. He put it quite well, saying

aaj kaal apne andar "mein" busa hai, pehle "hum" ka hua karta tha.. isise zindagi kaafi battar hone lagi hai.. ab kya kahein

Loose translation: These days within us, "I" presides.. earlier "we" used to preside.. this had made life quite horrible.. what to say

I don't think I need to expound on this statement.. it speaks for itself.
