Imagine a scenario where you are a friend’s place, and there is someone you don’t like very much who also happens to be your friend’s friend. S/He happens to be there too and has a computer. You on the other hand arrived sporting your new Sony Ericsson T610 which is Bluetooth enabled.
*Pause*. For the uninitiated, Bluetooth is a technology that allows you to find other devices (PDAs, Cell phones, Laptops) and connect to them to exchange information easily, but only over short distances of about 30-50 feet.
*Resume*. And so this person decides to play a prank and connects to your cellphone using his laptop and send one of your close friends a SMS calling them something or the other. A pretty rotten SMS. And everyone will think its you, and no one can prove otherwise because after all, it IS your cellphone that sent the message!
Another scenario would be if you were talking to your friend about that person, and that person wanted to listen in. Simple. Get the laptop to send a command to your cellphone to call his/her cellphone and then the person can just as easily listen in without any hassle! The possibilities are endless.
And if you need the element of a spy thriller, get a load of this: A “rifle” which can connect to your cellphone over a distance of a mile, as long as you are in the gun sight! To read more about both these scenarios in a little more detail with some jargon thrown in, go read this wired article on bluetooth ails.
What do you guys think?
