Goa trip 2008

We spent a mere 3 days at Goa, our first real (actually second, if you count the honeymoon) outing post marriage.

The beach was beckoning, the weather hot, and all in all a good time was had. I wish we had spent a few more days there, and in a planned manner as the trip was quite ad hoc.

We divided the 3 days into beaches and Panjim, with most of the time at a beach here or there. Activities involved collecting shells, chilling under an umbrella, dipping our feet in the water and some frisby.

Here are snaps from our recent Goa trip:

PAN to replace MIN for transactions over 50,000

After making over 2,00,000 people register for the Mutual fund Investor Number [MIN], the government turns around and states that MIN shall be replaced by PAN for all transactions over 50,000 Rupees.

The rationale being dished out is that the PAN number is to become single point of identification for all individuals. This is retarded, considering that the MIN number was to come into effect next month and the bill for the same was passed this January.

Airtel Song Catcher advertisement

Airtel, a leading mobile phone services provider in India introduced 'Song Catcher'. The minute you hear a tune you really like and want to set as your caller tune, all you need to do is dial 393 and upload 20 seconds of audio from the song being heard, and it automagically get's set as your caller tune!

Simple isn't it? Only that when I saw the advertisement, I almost ran out and sold my shares from Bharti Airtel because I was afraid they'd be sued for infringing copyright laws. What the ad. told me was that one could record 20 seconds of music heard anywhere and use it as their caller tune, which set off alarms in my head.

Why do we fear?

Why do we fear,
never having attempted the unattempted?
And as the time comes near,
why, to run away are we tempted?

I think it is the fear of failure,
or the disheartening feeling of rejection,
which leads us to apply prevention before cure,
because all that concerns us is our protection.

But I think we need a change of outlook,
because there really is nothing to fear.
Instead of doing everything by the book,
do by the ideals you in your heart hold dear!

One day we shall wake up,
and see that all that glitters is not gold.
And we won't have the time to make up,
for all the mistakes that went untold.

Library management and a Master's project

Don't know how I can go on like this. I keep forgetting what needs to be done on a day to day basis. My iCal application isn't helping me much, though it makes complete sense to be using it to set up to-do lists and reminders. Damn it!

I was to have returned books to the public library 2 days ago, but it skipped my mind, as such things always tend to do! I respect saurabh in this regard. He is so well organised that he even has a list of books and when they were borrowed and hence when do they need to be returned! I had gotten myself 2 books this time round - The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas and Children Solve Problems by Edward DeBono. Finsihed one and made it half way through the second. Going to check that one out again.
